Black Girls in Cyber

“Black Girls in Cyber was established to increase industry awareness and diversity in cybersecurity, STEM, and privacy. Through mentorship, scholarship, webinars, conferences, and community outreach, BGiC, will support an ongoing stream of qualified women that can serve our communities in these roles.”

”We were founded by four Black female shark researchers. We strive to be seen and take up space in a discipline which has been largely inaccessible for women like us. We strive to be positive role models for the next generation. We seek to promote diversity and inclusion in shark science and encourage women of color to push through barriers and contribute knowledge in marine science.”

“While the global community is faced with issues related to worldwide health security, peacekeeping, weapons of mass destruction nonproliferation, and the intersection of national and international security, there was no significant or sustained voice from people of color, particularly women of color, who are often the most affected and who are also community leaders in many parts of the world. We changed that.”

“BGDF’s mission objectives address three critical issues: (1) the racial and socioeconomic achievement gap that undermines our ideals of freedom, equality and opportunity; (2) limited or restricted sense of youth agency and voice; and (3) cultivating the next generation of scientists, conservationists and planetary stewards.”
